“Honesty, Integrity, Respect, and Compassion” Speech 2 – 5 minutes Due: Thursday, March 3, 2011
Below you will find the definitions of the above four words as found in Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary, copyright 1983.
In this speech, you need to explain what any or all of these four words mean to you. You may use the definitions as a starting point if you wish, but you need to explain what you think they mean in your own words. You may use examples from your life or life in general; in fact, examples will add points to your speech grade.
Honesty: fairness and straightforwardness of conduct; adherence to the facts: sincerity; uprightness of character or action; implies a refusal to lie, steal, or deceive in any way.
Integrity: an unimpaired condition: soundness; firm adherence to a code of moral or artistic values: incorruptibility; the quality or state of being complete or undivided: completeness: honesty.
Respect: an act of giving particular attention: consideration; a high or special regard: esteem; the quality or state of being esteemed; expressions of respect paid.
Compassion: to sympathize; sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress with a desire to alleviate it.
In this speech, you may want to talk about results that have come about because you or someone else acted in this manner or consequences when you or someone else failed to act accordingly; for example, talk about what happened when you told the truth about something that you had done or how you felt when your best friend lied to you.
